Events & Happenings - September 9 - 15th, 2024
Hello and Happy Sunday! Hope you are having a great weekend.
The weather is finally cooling, which I am so excited about. In some sad news, Slipstream in Ballston closed last week. There are plenty of other fabulous coffee spots in Ballston, but still such a bummer to learn that they closed! I am planning a post on my favorite coffee spots in Arlington, so stay tuned for that!

Cyanotype Sun Prints (National Landing)
11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Crystal City Water Park
Cyanotype is a form of photographic printing that uses sunlight to create vivid cyan-blue prints with white designs. First developed in 1842, it was initially used to create copies of drawings and diagrams – giving us the word blueprint.
This event will show you how to create cyanotype prints using the power of the sun. To create a cyanotype print, a solution of two chemicals is mixed together and coated onto a surface, usually paper or fabric. Once dry, items or objects are placed on top of the coated surface, and the surface is exposed to ultraviolet light, either sunlight or an artificial light source. The light reacts with the chemicals, causing a chemical reaction that results in a blue color. After exposure, the print is washed in water, which removes the unexposed chemicals, leaving behind a blue print.
This event is free, but to support Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail’s work, we are asking for a suggested donation of $10.
