Hello! After a brief unplanned hiatus I am excited to be back to sharing newsletters in Arlington! I got married on October 11th and wedding planning was all-consuming.

Sober Rides: The Washington Regional Alcohol Program's 2025 Halloween SoberRide® program is offering FREE rides home (up to $15), in partnership with Lyft, from 4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, and on Saturday, Nov. 1. Arlington Transit Buses will be offering FREE bus rides from 6:00 p.m. on Oct. 31, to approximately 1:00 a.m. on Nov. 1. Check bus routes and schedules on their website.

Pumpkin Disposal: When it's all said and done, don't let those gourds go to waste -- pumpkins can be put in the green curbside cart with yard waste and food scraps for weekly collection/composting. Arlington County's award-winning residential food scrap collection bolsters sustainability by diverting biodegradable waste from incineration to composting. You can also drop them at one of 24 On-Street food collection bins. Visit the County's Waste Management site here to find the nearest public drop off bin.

Voting: Next Tuesday, November 4th is Election Day! In Virginia, residents can vote for the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, Virginia house of delegates, and local office positions. Thursday, October 30th

From echoes of the Civil War to local legends whispered through the centuries, the town is alive with ghost stories that reveal a deeper layer of its history. Paranormal investigator and author Alex Matsuo blends storytelling with historical context, shining a light on the spirits, strange happenings, and folklore that have shaped Arlington’s haunted reputation.

Are you wondering where to start when it comes to buying a home? Join Sarah Picot, licensed realtor, as she goes over the process of buying a home from start to finish. Topics will include: how to choose a lender (with Devin O’Reilly, mortgage banker), accounting information, mortgage rates, and refinancing information.

Celebrate Halloween in delicious style with this festive, hands-on cooking class! Students will start by learning to make handmade squid ink fettuccine, a spooky twist on handmade pasta. Next, transform it into a comforting dish with butternut squash sauce, caramelized onions, and pancetta, blending sweet and savory flavors. Finally, end on a playful note by baking chewy Halloween candy blondies, the perfect way to use up leftover treats.

This Halloween, trick-of-treat at One More Page Books by donating a non-perishable item in exchange for a prize. You can donate more than one item if you wish, but each trick-or-treater may only pick one item from the prize cart. All food items are being donated to the Arlington Food Assistance Center. Highly requested items include: canned fruits, canned tuna, canned soups, canned vegatbles, peanut butter, and cereal.

Saturday, November 1st

Come taste the best of Nebraska's flavors at our event - from classic cornhusker dishes to modern twists on local favorites! Join us for an afternoon with Prisoner Express. Prisoner Express creates an opportunity for incarcerated men and women to get information, education and a public forum for creative self-expression. Read and respond to journals, art, poetry, and essays that the prisoners have submitted. Led by an experienced volunteer. Registration recommended.

Sunday, November 2nd

Pedro Gonzalez

Pedro Gonzalez is a Colombian American comedian based out of NYC. Besides touring the country as a stand up, Pedro is a staff writer on Freevee’s hit show Primo, based on the life of NY Times best seller Shea Serrano. He was a finalist on Stand Up NBC and New York Funniest, and also has the honor of being the first Latin American immigrant comedian to appear on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Join us at Brandymore Castle to Improve habitat, meet fellow do-gooders, get exercise, and learn about native plants and wildlife all while making a difference in the great outdoors! Adults, teens, and families ages 8 and up. If you have your own garden gloves and tools, please bring them along. If not, they will be given to you. Training and additional tools will be provided. Be sure to come dressed for work, wear long pants, long sleeves, and perhaps a hat. You may also want to bring along a water bottle. Pregistration required.

Monday, November 3rd

Unwind and invite balance in this flowing, gentle yoga class. Our experienced instructors will guide you through a gentle practice suitable for all levels. On Monday nights in the beautiful Tiffany Gallery. Start your week on a positive note.

Bring your own mat, a journal (optional), and wear comfortable clothing.

Location: Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington

Cost: This is adonation-based class that supports the museum’s mission. Ticket tiers are $10, $15, or $20.

Learn new games; meet new people! Play various modern board games that are simple to learn and fun to master. Experienced players will be on hand to offer instruction. You can also bring your own games if you prefer.

We meet in person every first Monday of the month. Newcomers are always welcome! For adults 18+.

Tuesday, November 4th

Learn, socialize, and have a good time. Whether you're curious about knitting, a beginner who wants to learn more, or are working at an intermediate / advanced level, this group is for you! Bring your desire to create with yarn along with your projects, questions, and problems.

Attendees should bring their own supplies, but we do have needles and yarn on hand for beginners to practice. For adult knitters and crocheters of all skill levels.

Location: Aurora Hills Library in the Eads Room

The iconic musical gorgeously staged in-the-round in Signature’s intimate setting and directed by Joe Calarco (Jesus Christ Superstar, Gypsy). Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman, his family and their tightknit community honor tradition but must contend with a changing world and a rise in antisemitism at their home in Czarist Russia.  The glorious score with songs “Sunrise, Sunset” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker” unite with exquisite dance in this classic of the musical theater canon filled with humor, heart – and life.

Join us for a craft the first Wednsday of every month! This month’s project is velvet pumpkins. Registration required.

Wellness Wednesdays: Intuitive Art Making

Explore the many practices and processes of intuitive art making. Explore color, pattern, process, expression, and feeling - with a variety of mediums and techniques! Teachers will rotate with their offerings. No art experience is necessary, just bring your curiosity and willingness to experiment! All supplies provided. Registration required.
