Daylight Savings Safety Tips: Now that Daylight Saving Time ended, it gets darker an hour earlier. Keep safety in mind when traveling around, whether driving, biking, scootering, or walking to usual destinations. Pedestrian crashes are 20% more likely in the darker months, so be extra vigilant while traveling.
Arlington for Palestine Petition: Arlington for Palestine is currently collecting signatures for the county to adopt an ethics policy, including ending collaboration with entities complicit in apartheid, genocide, systemic racism, and/or human rights abuses. The petition will be presented to the Arlington County board.
New Arlington Restaurants: There are a number of new restaurants coming to Arlington. Yesterday was the first day of Life Alive Cafe in Ballston, VA. Check out this instagram post to learn more about new restaurant additions.

Thursday, November 13th
Join us and help keep our neighborhood looking its best! Whether you live, work, or simply visit National Landing, this event is a fantastic way to give back, connect with neighbors, and be part of the transformation happening in our community. The first 50 registrants on site will receive a limited-edition community clean-up t-shirt as a thank-you for your participation! Sizes will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Have the holidays got you feeling like you want to put the screws to somebody? Get wise and amble on over to One More Page for another edition of "Noir at the Bookstoire," a spinoff of hotshot E.A. Aymar's Noir at the Bar series. The place is lousy with good books—and not the crooked kind that get you in trouble with the coppers. It may not be a full-on gin joint, but we'll have some giggle juice on standby for ya. Just make sure you pony up for a ticket, because only a few of you eggheads are gettin' in.

This presentation will dive into the extensive research conducted to date and mapped by Documenting Exclusion and Resilience, the collaborative web-based project created in part to explore the scope and context of racially restrictive covenant use in Arlington County and other parts of Northern Virginia. Kristin M Neun, a Documenting Exclusion’s team member, will provide a brief overview of national and regional developments that were a backdrop to racial covenant use in Arlington. She will also use the project’s interactive web map to explore the scope and way covenants were used to define Arlington’s suburban growth.

Friday, November 14th
Do the approaching holidays have you feeling anxious? Do you struggle to relax? You’re not alone! Join Arlington Public Library and VHC Health Senior Health for an interactive presentation designed to help you recognize the signs and sources of stress and learn effective stress management techniques tailored specifically for older adults. This 30-minute presentation will be followed by a 30-minute interactive session focused on learning techniques to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation.

Cerrome Russell, born and raised in Sumter County, Ga., started his comedy career 10 years ago while serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was first exposed to a broader audience as a cast member on the 2nd season of BET’s popular prank show Hell Date. He has traveled extensively; performing at college campuses and military installations worldwide, as well as opening for Hannibal Burress. Cerrome Russell’s comedy comes in many varieties, including Off-Center, Truthful, and of course, Country.

Saturday, November 15th
Four leading local conservation groups are joining forces to tackle litter and protect our waterways at the Mega Trash Bash, a community cleanup event. Volunteers from across Northern Virginia will gather to clean up trash along beloved outdoor spaces, including the Mount Vernon Trail, Daingerfield Island, Four Mile Run, Rosslyn-Ballston, and nearby streams that drain into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. We will meet back up at Ballston Local after cleaning up the neighborhood for some socializing!

Sunday, November 16th
Join instructor Allison Lince-Bentley from Tilden House Studio as she walks you through how to tailor garments for a better fit and revive well-worn clothes through simple repairs and adjustments in this two-hour workshop with interactive demonstrations. Participants are encouraged to bring garments to receive a consultation and advice on how to handle specific situations, but will be completing the work on projects outside of the class.

Follow along with two students as they interact with an astronomer at a local star party. Along the way, the students learn the history of the telescope – from Galileo’s modifications to a child’s spyglass, using two small pieces of glass, to the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy. Appealing to audiences of all ages, this show explores the wonder and discovery made by astronomers throughout the last 400 years. This program will be followed by a short sky talk in the planetarium.

Monday, November 17th
A Climate Cafe is a casual gathering where folks can come together to discuss topics and questions that are important to them and build connections with other eco-interested Arlingtonians. Our conversation this month will be centered around having a climate-conscious holiday season! We’ll have a short presentation followed by a discussion on mindful travel, gift-giving, hosting and entertaining, and more. Co-chairs Molly and Maria will provide prompts, but feel free to bring any questions, tips and resources you think might be helpful for others!

An evening of shopping and fun with friends and neighbors. The Merry Market is the annual fundraiser for The Dominion Guild, a 40-member women’s organization with a mission to support local non-profits doing great things for our community. Proceeds from this holiday shopping bazaar will support our nine 2025 grant recipients, all doing great things in the NOVA community. Merry Market is a great venue for holiday shopping that also supports nine deserving organizations. This year we have 25 vendors offering an array of distinctive merchandise.
