Hello and Happy Monday!
We are officially in Spooky Season this week! Hope you are celebrating Halloween in your favorite way whether it’s with a scary movie, lighting a pumpkin spice candle, or passing out candy.
As you know, next Tuesday is Election Day. To learn more about the election, including checking your status, please visit Virginia Department of Elections website. Remember that this election is about more than just the President. There are several local positions and decisions to vote on.
In other civic duty news, Arlington is currently collecting feedback to update the Transportation Plan for the county. Please share your feedback by November 15th to inform the plan’s vision, goals, and priorities for Arlington’s transportation future. Lighten Up, Arlington (Rosslyn)
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Custis Trail, Langston Boulevard & N. Lynn Street
Join BikeArlington and WalkArlington along the Custis Trail in Rosslyn. They’ll be handing out free bike lights, reflective vests, and other gear to help you be seen after sunset! Look for their table along the trail near the Rosslyn bikeometer (bike counter).
The Shop: Halloween Costume Hours (Ballston/Virginia Square)
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at The Shop at Central Library
Need extra sewing time or a tool to finish up your Halloween costume? The Shop is extending our Open Shop hours on Tuesday, October 29 and Wednesday, October 30 for any last minute tweaks you may need to make.
All Makers must must complete a Maker Waiver Agreement and have a valid Arlington Public Library card to use equipment during Open Shop hours. Makers 14 and under must have a parent or guardian present at all times.
Out & About Note: Last year, I used sewing machines in the Shop for my Halloween costume.
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the Drew Room at Columbia Pike Library
Join local artist Regin Chua for a talk about her artistic process! The Incubator at Arlington Public Library invites you to join us for an author talk by Regina Chua (Art by Courage) as she exhibits art from The Immigrant Experience, shows process videos, and discusses her inspiration. The library will offer recommended titles about Regina's topic for checkout. Light snacks will be provided.
Registration recommended. First come, first-served seating.
Witches & Wine w/Hocus Pocus (Penrose)
7:00 pm at Arlington Drafthouse & Cinema
Celebrate the classic Hocus Pocus and bring out your best witch costume to throwback time and enjoy discounted wine
A teenage boy named Max and his little sister move to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.

BLOODSPAWN Movie Premier (Penrose)
7:00 pm at Arlington Drafthouse & Cinema
Theatrical Premiere of this locally-produced indie feature film, exclusively at the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse, with members of the cast and crew in attendance A frontier-era gang of misfits band together to battle an ancient and evil bloodthirsty hellbeast of Native lore in this fun-filled classic folk horror popcorn movie with a unique retro look, style, and soundtrack. Buttered and seasoned with a healthy dose of old-school practical puppet effects rather than just all modern CGI elements, Bloodspawn plays as a nostalgic campy grindhouse-style homage to the creature features of the 1980s. Starring Raw Leiba (Bone Tomahawk), Roger Willie (Windtalkers), R. Keith Harris (AMC’s The Walking Dead), and Bill Oberst Jr. (3 From Hell). Runtime: 1 hour, 16 minutes. This film is not yet rated. Contains violent content which may be too intense for some viewers. Viewer discretion is advised.

Halloween Bash at Columbia Pike (Penrose)
6:00 pm -7:00 pm in the Drew Room at Columbia Pike Library
Join us for a Halloween celebration for all ages! From 6:00-6:30, children can participate in a storytime and make a craft in the children's area while adults make handmade soap in the Drew Room. From 6:30-7:00, all attendees are invited to have Halloween-themed snacks, candy, and drinks together in the Drew Room
Magic Mic Halloween (Ballston)
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm at El Rey (Doors open at 7:30 pm)
Magic Mic is a monthly open mic magic show featuring local magicians. They perform amazing illusions right before your eyes. You'll laugh, cry, and leave questioning your perception. Delicious Mexican cuisine and drinks served all night. Free entry, ages 15 +.

Out & About Note: Last year, I went to see this at the drafthouse and it was a great time! This year I’ll be handing out candy and watching the movie at home.
Friday, November 1st
Dia De Los Muertos Celebration - An Evening Picnic (Virginia Square)
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at MoCA Arlington
Join us for an evening picnic on the lawn of Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington with family-friendly activities, vendors, performance and games. Delicious tacos and craft espresso drinks from local food trucks, including Little Miner Taco, Salteñas Camila, and Rossana.
This event will also feature live performances and activities to participate in. Come, be part, and celebrate. Free to attend!
Don’t Tell Comedy Show (Clarendon)
8:00 pm in Clarendon (exact location will be shared at 8:00am the day of the show)
This show will be at an indoor location. It will have chairs provided and is BYOB. Don’t Tell Comedy shows have secret locations and secret comedians. To learn more about how their shows work, visit here.

Christopher Titus (Penrose)
7:30 pm at Arlington Drafthouse & Cinema
Christopher Titus is a prolific stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and producer. As a creator, he has sold shows to NBC, ABC, FOX and Comedy Central. His wildly innovative multi-cam half hour Titus premiered to critical and audience acclaim on Fox, earning the show an Emmy nomination, while Titus himself received a WGA Award nomination for his writing. Following Titus, Christopher starred in ABC’s Big Shots, acting opposite Dylan McDermott, Michael Vartan and Josh Malina. He also starred in the NBC one-hour pilot, Future Tense and created and starred in the Bryan Cranston-directed pilot, Special Unit for Comedy Central. And he recently wrote, directed, and starred in a feature version of Special Unit which won the L.A. Film Award for Best Comedy Feature and the Hope Film Awards jury prize for Best Director. Author Talk: Dr. Anton Treuer (Ballston/Virginia Square)

Dr. Anton Treuer (pronounced troy-er) is Professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University and author of many books.
Treuer is an author, speaker, trainer and professor. His work is in equity, education, and cultural work has put him on a path of service around the nation and the world. He will discuss "Everything You Wanted to Know About Indians But Were Afraid to Ask."
