Events & Happenings February 11-17

Hello,

Hope you’re having a great week! I will admit the last week has been tough given all of the uncertainty across the river. This past week, I checked out a few spots to boost my mood though, like Ballstonian for coffee (the pistachio coffee was fabulous) and wagamama for dinner. This week, I am planning to attend the clothing swap hosted by Rossana! See you there?

Tuesday, February 11th

  • 7:00 pm at The Board Room

  • The Board Room’s weekly Trivia Tuesdays at 7:00pm are Virginia’s most popular trivia night with rotating themes as well as payouts & prizes!

Wednesday, February 12th

  • 5:00 pm at The Commentary Social House

  • Join us for an unforgettable culinary experience as Executive Chef Francecil Ponte and our Sicilian kitchen supervisor, Rita Massa, the beloved "Pizza Queen" from Napoli, take you on a journey into the art of crafting crowd-pleasing pies.

  • During this interactive class, Chef Fran and Rita will share their secrets, tips, and tricks for crafting authentic Italian pizzas. While your creations bake to perfection, step over to our Craft Cocktail station and immerse yourself in a mixology class led by our in-house experts.

  • Join the Rosslyn BID for a Pop-Up Book Sale in partnership with Turning the Page on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 12-7:30 p.m. at Bennett Park Art Atrium.

  • Bring your family and friends to shop a wide selection of low-priced books across a variety of genres. This event supports Turning the Page, a DC-based non-profit organization striving to improve academic performance and well-being among the youth. 

  • 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Westover Library in the Longfellow Room

  • Come join us for the holiday that celebrates women's friendships! Festivities will include fun food, cool crafts and time to relax and have fun with each other.

  • New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn loves to dispel the myth that smart women don’t read (or write) romance. Her novels have been translated into 42 languages, and in March 2021, all eight Bridgerton novels were on the New York Times list at the same time, a record (at that time) for an adult fiction author. Netflix's adaptation of her popular Bridgerton novel series remains one of the most-watched English television series in Netflix history. Julia’s newest novel is Queen Charlotte, co-written with television pioneer Shonda Rhimes inspired by the original series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, created by Shondaland for Netflix.

  • As you take your seats, please enjoy a prelude performance by The Spruce Quartet from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Attendance is first-come, first-served until seating capacity is reached. We expect to reach capacity quickly, so please plan to arrive early. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Copies of the book will be available for sale, courtesy of One More Page Books. Please note: limit one book per person for the book signing and no personalization is allowed. The event will also be livestreamed and available as a recording on Arlington County's Youtube channel; please register to receive the online link and an email reminder.

This is the second film of the Silents Synced series and will feature R.E.M.’s Monster and New Adventures in Hi Fi, paired with Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr. Release date: 2/7/2025. Directed and remixed by Josh Frank.

  • In Radical Paper, the authors discuss the contemporary breakthrough of using colored paper pulp as an integral element in creating art – as opposed to serving only as the surface on which art is created. The book chronicles the rapid development of the movement over the last 70 years, and how early practitioners in the mid-20th century first began manipulating colored pulp, freeing it from its two-dimensional function as a substrate.

Community Clothing Swap (Virginia Square)

  • 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington (MoCAA)

  • Bring your gently used clothing items and accessories to trade with others. It’s so much fun to share, find new and unexpected items, and refresh your wardrobe without spending a dime!

  • Supported by Rossana Mobile Espresso Truck, who will be selling their tasty handcrafted drinks and bites, and Pathforward, where extra clothing donations will go. Monday, February 17th

  • It's hard to top how much of a one-man band Jerry Lewis was in his prime. With the original version of THE NUTTY PROFESSOR alone, he served as writer, director, producer, hero, and villain. But superstar Eddie Murphy is no slouch, and with this remake, he managed to one-up a comedy icon and revitalize his own career in the process.
