Hello and happy Sunday! I hope you had a great weekend. This week is the Arlington County Fair! The county fair starts at 5:00pm Wednesday, August 14th and will end at 10:00 pm on Sunday, August 18th. For more information about the planned activities, including Burrito Eating Content, check out the fair’s website.

In other news, Arlington recently launched their On-Street Food Scraps Collection program. It’s an easy way to compost your food scraps. Learn more about the program and required Bigbelly app here.

The DMV Moves survey deadline has been extended to 11:59 pm EST. Please make sure to complete the survey to share your input on transportation in the area.

Monday, August 12th

  • 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Water Park

  • Join DC Fray + National Landing on Mondays from 6-7 p.m. from June 10 through August 26 for free, instructor-led classes that are sure to help you break a sweat. No experience required!

  • 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm at Cherrydale Library

  • Join us to learn about upcoming new releases. Hear about new and forthcoming titles and share what books you are reading or have recently read. This is a great opportunity to hear from others and plan your upcoming reading.

Tuesday, August 13th

  • 5:00 pm - 6:30pm at the trail intersection of Langston Boulevard and N Lynn Street (see map)

  • Volunteers will also remove invasive vegetation and pick up trash near the entrance to the trail. No special skills are needed. We'll teach you how to help in just a few minutes. After volunteering, we will gather at a restaurant in Rosslyn to eat food and socialize. Attendance at the social event is optional.

Wednesday, August 14th

Island Yoga (Pentagon City)

  • 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at Island Time Bar & Grill

  • Join us on the island--Columbia Island, on the banks of the Potomac--for a refreshing yoga flow and a tropical midweek happy hour. We'll roll out our mats in the sprawling lawn of Island Time Bar & Grill (D.C.'s best kept secret!), overlooking the serene marina. Following a fun, all-levels yoga experience to relax your mind and body, enjoy a complimentary tiki beverage (alcoholic or non) and great company. Stay after to nourish your appetite from the delicious menu items, including salads, fish tacos, and the best fries around!

  • 7:00 pm at Quincy Hall

  • Pitch-A-Friend is a unique event where friends of single people pitch their friends through a 3-5 minute presentation. It’s like Shark Tank, but for love and friendship. Sign ups are closed for this Wednesday’s event, but join to watch friends pitch their friends and mingle afterwards!

  • Out & About Note: I pitched a friend at the last event at Quincy Hall and it was a great time! I definitely recommend.

Thurday, August 15th

LGBTQ+ Book Club @ Federico Ristorante Italiano (Crystal City/National Landing)

    The Book Club, hosted by EQUALITY NoVa, is yet another opportunity to engage in a fun and rewarding activity. We meet monthly, usually on the third Thursday of each month, at Federico’s for a lively discussion of that month’s selected book. We don’t discriminate when it comes to genre, we read – from classic literature to best selling novels to biographies to histories to gay fiction!

Fridays at the Fountain (Crystal City/National Landing)

  • Warm nights, live music, and great vibes return to Water Park on July 5! Join us every Friday through August 23 for free, family-friendly concerts at the region's only outdoor food hall.

  • Out & About note: I went to Water Park a few weeks ago on a Friday and I loved the music - so fun!

  • 8:00 pm at Mason Square Plaza

  • Join us for Mason Square’s favorite tradition, the outdoor screening of My Cousin Vinny (1992). Grab your lawn chairs, snacks, and picnic blankets. The movie will begin at 8:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

Live Comedy Show Starring Paris Sashay (National Landing/Crystal City)

  • All movies start at sunset (at 8:30 pm) and are shown in English with Spanish subtitles. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs/blankets, etc. Leashed pets are welcome. Saturday, August 17th

  • 8:00 am - 10:00 am (there are two 45-minute classes with a professional trainer at 8:00 am and 9:00 am) at Water Park

  • Jumpstart your Saturday with a 45-minute fitness class. Join us near the Water Park event stage for a dynamic workout, setting the tone for an active and invigorating weekend. Please bring a water bottle and yoga mat.

  • 10:00 am - 11:00 am at The Crossing Clarendon

  • Join us at The Crossing Clarendon for free weekly fitness classes in The Loop as part of our Summer Sweat Series. Please bring your own towel, water bottle, and yoga mat. This class is powered by lululemon and led by lululemon ambassador Ahmed Jabali-Nash. This inclusive and supportive class welcomes students of all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Ahmed will lead a dynamic practice that respects your individual needs and abilities. Sunday, August 18th

  • 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Professional Bartending School

  • Manhattans, Martinis, and Sloe Gin Fizzes await you at TTD’s Bartending 101. Sit back and enjoy our introductory seminar and hands-on training class at one of Washington's most respected bartending schools. Our teachers will provide you with the highest quality instruction. Train under simulated barroom conditions using a full range of bar tools and equipment. Learn about glassware, different methods of mixing, various cocktail recipes, bartending tricks, handling a crowded bar, etc. Our class consists of a brief lecture, followed by hours of hands on bar training where you step behind a bar to practice your new skills, tips on techniques, and most importantly, what it feels like from the other side of a bar.

Drag Show for Charity (Crystal City/National Landing)
