Events & Happenings Dates

Hello and Happy Tuesday!

Sorry for the delay in getting this out this week - busy weekend! Last night, I checked out Flight Wine Shop in Crystal City, which is a new wine store, and saw The Departed at Alamo Drafthouse in Crystal City. To cap it off, I grabbed a drink at Four Courts. The past few weeks have been quite heavy especially for federal workers and those impacted by the changes like contractors. I hope you’re able to find some joy in the small moments.

If you’re looking for a part-time work, Village Sweet is hiring a part time baker and Rossana is hiring part-time baristas and cashiers.

In other exciting news, last week I learned that Arlington is getting a mobile bookstore, The Wandering Shelf, which I am SO excited about.

Let’s have a great week - hang in there!

Tuesday, March 18th

  • 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm at One More Page Books

  • The ultimate sugar showdown returns! Join us for March Madness—One More Page style! We’ve crafted a bracket pitting 16 of our chocolates against each other to crown one true Chocolate Champion! The tasting will begin at 6:30, with a half-hour for people to taste and vote for which chocolates will advance to the Edible Eight, and then shorter following rounds. At the end of the evening (7:45-8), we'll announce the winner.

  • Will last year’s champion (Hedonist’s Milk Chocolate with Dark Chocolate Swirl and Sea Salt) repeat, or will it be a new bar from the Virginia conference, featuring bars made in Occoquan? Will an underdog rise from Zoe's Chocolate? Anything can happen!

  • This is sure to be a memorable night, and admission is limited! Register now: it's $16 to play, which is less than you'll lose than when you inevitably bust your NCAA bracket in the first round. Sparkling wine is included with admission, as well as sample of each of our competing chocolates.

  • 7:00 pm - 7:45 pm at Glencarlyn Library

  • At the start of the Civil War in 1861, Arlington was at the center of a significant military conflict. It witnessed many minor skirmishes and military actions. The county's strategic location required Union soldiers to build fortifications known as the "Arlington Line" to protect the capital, Washington. However, these forts and camps had another unintended purpose: they provided refuge for enslaved people seeking freedom. During the war, thousands of African Americans settled in Arlington. Many worked for the United States Army, and some eventually joined the newly formed United States Colored Troops (USCT), fighting for their freedom. Discover more about this unique chapter of Civil War history.

  • Cosponsored by Glencarlyn Civic Association and Arlington Historical Society (AHS).

  • 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm at the Renegade
